In particular, in the tropical dry forest of the province of Guanacaste, where the Flying Crocodile is located, you can observe majestic trees, magnificent tropical flowers and multiple species of animals during your walks and hikes.
In the hotel park
While strolling in the park, you will undoubtedly see the famous howler monkeys, often moving with family, from tree to tree, generally early in the morning or in the evening just before dark.
Only the males utter powerful howls. According to a recent scientific study, the length of the howl varies depending on the environment in which they are located.
Refuges and National Parks near the hotel
Refuge for the protection and care of marine turtles
ASVO Playa Buena Vista Refuge, located a few minutes walk from the hotel provides among other things the protection of sea turtle eggs to increase the hatching rate and thus ensure the protection of the species.
Ostional National Wildlife Refuge, 38 km- 1h- near Nosara is accessible with accredited guides. Depending on the season, you can attend the impressive landing -Arribada- of more than 1000 sea turtles who come to lay their eggs on the beach of Ostional.
National Park
Barra Honda National Park, near Nicoya, 50Km-1h- from the hotel. In the dry tropical forest, this park is full of arbutus, tempistes, guanacastes, jobos. It also has immense’s underground caves in the limestone rock. To See !
Diria National Park, 60 km- 1h30- from the hôtel. This park is little frequented which makes it more likely to see a large number of animals such as anteaters, monkeys……
Species identification
The large Rainforest® collection identification boards for birds, butterflies, insects, mammals, reptiles, marine animals but also trees, plants, flowers, différents species of orchids and tropical fruit in Costa Rica is searchable at the reception area. They allow you to identify the flora and fauna photographed during your getaways and hikes.
In some time, Costa Rica, should be the first country to create a biodiversity library, accessible to all and free, thanks to the work of Janzen, biologist at the University of Pennsylvania, and Hallwachs, a tropical ecologist. In this database, it will be possible to identify, thanks to the barcode of DNA, one million species of Costa Rica like arthropods, fungi, nematodes.
Discovering Costa Rica
- 116 volcanoes are located on the volcanic arc of Central America, they are distributed over the Cordilleras of Guanacaste, Tilaran and the Cordillera Central. 5 volcanoes are still active, these are the Arenal, Irazu, Poas, Rincon de la Vieja, Turrialba volcanoes, closely monitored by the Heredia volcanology and sysmological observatory.
